Aren't they cool? We had one that frequently visited a tree behind our house there- to the point it created enough damage to it that the upper 40 feet or so came crashing down during a strong wind! My understanding is that the woodpecker is only going after the carpenter ants that would've killed the tree eventually anyway. We see them regularly here too.
